Donations

QUALIFIED DONORS

Gifts to the Foundation will be accepted from both members and friends of DHPC so all may share the accumulated gifts which God has provided us to the glory of his name. Gifts may be in any amount and are irrevocable. Gifts may be refused where they might adversely  impact the accomplishment of DHPC’s mission or the Foundation’s nonprofit status or when the Foundation Board determines such refusal is otherwise warranted.

TYPE OF GIFT

DHPC encourages its members and friends to think seriously about how they can help support, improve and expand the Church’s ministry over the long term. Gifts may include cash, securities, real property (real estate and valuable tangibles), life insurance and life income plans (annuities, pooled funds and trusts). Gifts may be made in a lump sum, installment gifts over time or gifts from wills and estates.

Donors may attach any condition or restriction to their gifts so long as they are legally and morally acceptable, will not adversely affect the mission of DHPC or the fund’s nonprofit status, and are approved in advance by the Foundation Board. The Board and Session would prefer that gifts be made to the Foundation’s General Endowment Fund without restriction so that the Session and the Board will have the flexibility to designate uses of the funds wherever the need is greatest at a particular time.

SPECIAL PURPOSE FUNDS

In addition to the General Endowment Fund, the Board has created four additional funds designed to cover the most commonly requested restrictions. They are:

  • Local Mission and Outreach
  • Music, Arts and Worship Activities
  • New Communities of Faith
  • Children and Youth

Restrictions beyond these are possible and should be discussed with a Board member. All donors of restricted gifts will be asked to include language allowing the board to vary from the donor’s intent when those restrictions no longer meet the mission and objectives of DHPC.

Note:  Money from these special restricted funds may be withdrawn in any amount and at any time as approved by Session and the Foundation Board.

PLANNED GIVING

Various approaches to foundation donations may both provide financial support to the Church while accomplishing other objectives such as advanced tax and estate planning. Several ways to accomplish these objectives and their outcomes are described in the Planned Giving section of Frequently Asked Questions. While members of the Board are always happy to discuss endowment giving with you, advanced planning concepts should also be discussed with your tax advisor, estate planner and CPA.
